Baseball Hosts Final Athletic Event of Year Saturday

Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team hosts the final athletic event of the year at noon Saturday when the Bears entertain National Junior College Athletic Association Division III No. 13-ranked Dallas College Cedar Valley.

Brookhaven beat Cedar Valley, 6-5, Wednesday to open a three-game series – the final regular season series this year.

The Bears (14-35, 8-20 Dallas Athletic Conference) clinched a spot in the NJCAA Division III South Central District Tournament beginning Wednesday at Dallas College Eastfield. The tournament schedule will be announced following the completion of this week's regular season games.

Hunter Pope leads the Bears in hitting with a .435 average, and has eight doubles, a triple, four home runs, 25 runs batted in and five stolen bases. Joseph Jaco is hitting .333 with six doubles, a triple, a homer, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases. Balin Valentine is batting .328 with a team-best 14 doubles, two triples, a home run, 13 RBI and 18 stolen bases. Ray Jaramillo is hitting .327 with eight doubles, a triple, a home run, 21 RBI and six stolen bases. Peyton Starr leads the Bears with eight home runs, while batting .320 with 11 doubles, a triple and 38 RBI.

Jason Bonnett has recorded 69 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched. Ronald Zamora and Hunter Beltran each has two saves.
