Brookhaven Jumps Back Over North Lake in DAC Race
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – At Haven, they say, "Bo knows."
Bo definitely knows North Lake.
Dallas College Brookhaven power hitter Bo Dinscore crushed three home runs, and went 5-for-5 with five runs batted in as the Bears overcame an 11-0 second-inning hole to beat Dallas College North Lake, 24-14, Thursday at Bears Diamond.
It was the first three-home run game of the sophomore first baseman's career, and the second multi-homer game of his days at Haven. Both have come at the expense of North Lake, which fell a game behind Brookhaven in the Dallas Athletic Conference standings.
The Bears' win snapped a five-game skid, bumping their record to 20-24 overall, 11-12 in the DAC. The Blazers, who surrendered nine runs in the third inning and nine more in the seventh, fell to 20-27, 10-13.
Isaiah Nava blasted a grand slam with one out in the bottom of the third to pull Brookhaven within 11-8. Two batters later, Dinscore belted a solo shot to right to make it a two-run game. Alex Rangel, who collected four hits, scored on Nava's sacrifice fly in the fifth to pull the Bears within one, 11-10. After North Lake picked up a pair in the sixth on Jacob Binder's RBI double before he stole third and scored on an error to pad the lead back to three runs, Dinscore led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo blast to left. Rangel's two-run double to left put the Bears in front, 14-13. Edgar Quintero singled home another run before the inning was over.
The Blazers pulled within a run on Noah Angus' single to center to score Robert Farr in the seventh. But the Bears exploded for a nine-spot in the seventh, ending the game on Dinscore's third blast – a three-run shot to left.
Rangel was 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Nava had a season-high five RBI. Ray Jaramillo and Kerkmaz were both 2-for-5 with two RBI. Kerkmaz homered in the nine-run seventh.
Kenneth Haynes got the win in relief, tossing the final three innings, allowing three runs, two earned, four hits and two walks, and struck out three.
It was Brookhaven's third win over North Lake in five games this season.
Game 3 in the series is set for noon Friday.
