Brookhaven Baseball Wins 20th Game of Season

DALLAS – Dallas College Brookhaven moved into sole possession of third place in the league after winning the final two games of its series at Dallas College Mountain View.

The Bears (20-25, 13-11 Dallas Athletic Conference) won their 20^th game for a third straight year in beating Mountain View 16-3 in seven innings Saturday. Brookhaven won Game 2 a day earlier 11-4.

In that second game, Bears starter Aidan Baker won the second game, going 6.1 innings and allowing four runs, two earned, four hits and five walks. He struck out four. Cannon Hathorn cleaned up the final 2.2 innings, not allowing a base runner in facing seven batters, while getting out of the seventh with a double play ball.

Brett Petillo was 2 for 3 with a home run and two runs batted in. Payton Stephenson was 2 for 3 with two RBI. Fabian Diaz drove in three runs, and went 1 for 3. Abraham Fortis was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Aidan Corey collected two hits in five plate appearances.

Mountain View's Micah Gregory went 2 for 4 with an RBI in a game Brookhaven doubled up the Lions 8-4 in the hitting department.

Trailing 4-2 in the fifth, the Bears scored nine runs over the next four innings to win going away. They scored three in the sixth to break a 4-4 tie and claim the lead for good.

Saturday's 16-3 win was Brookhaven's second straight series-ending victory by that score. Mountain View, which fell to 17-27 overall, 7-17 in the DAC, had seven hits in Game 3. Diego Washington was 3 for 3, and Cooper Scott homered and doubled for the Lions. It was Scott's team-leading 11th home run of the season.

The Bears host Seminole State College 1 p.m. Monday before digging in to a three-game series with Dallas College Cedar Valley (16-28, 5-19) Wednesday at 12 p.m. Wednesday's game at Lancaster High School is scheduled to be featured as the DAC Game of the Week on the DAC Sports Network.
