Bears Women's Soccer Players Sweep DAC Honors
Dallas College Brookhaven's Alexa Bezpalko and Hayli Nichols were named the Dallas Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Players of the Week. Bezpalko was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Nichols claimed the Defensive Player of the Week honor.
A sophomore forward from McKinney, Texas, Bezpalko scored two goals, and had an assist in the Bears' 4-0 win over Western Texas College Aug. 30. Bezpalko scored the game's first two goals within the opening 25 minutes. The first goal in the 14th minute proved to be the gamewinner – her first of the season. Her second goal came nine minutes later.
Nichols, a sophomore goalkeeper from Forney, Texas, stopped seven shots in the shutout win over the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school. She played 85 minutes in the Bears' first clean sheet of the season, notching her second victory of the year between the posts. Nichols also assisted in the final goal of the game.
Brookhaven (2-0) plays at Louisiana State University-Alexandria 3:30 p.m. Friday before hosting Renegades GA U19 in an exhibition Monday. The Bears open DAC play at home against Dallas College Richland Sept. 16 at 6 p.m.
