FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team was honored by Farmers Branch City Council Tuesday evening.

The Bears were honored at the beginning of the council meeting at Farmers Brancy City Hall for winning the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Championship. Brookhaven went 16-0-1, beating Mohawk Valley Community College, 2-1, for the title in Herkimer, New York. The win earned the Bears a repeat national championship.

Members of the team were recognized before the council and those in attendance. Head coach Jimmy Elder spoke for a few minutes, thanking the Farmers Branch community and recreation department for its support and partnership over the years. He also told the council and community members about the history of the program, and that many of the players are being recruited from the Dallas Metroplex area.

Dallas College Brookhaven's 2022 women's soccer national championship team was honored at Farmers Branch City Council meeting March 21, 2023.

"We're always honored to be honored," Elder said. "This is the first time Farmers Branch really ever recognized us. This was really important for me, for the girls. I'm really proud of them. I'm really glad we get a chance to celebrate them one more time. So thank you Farmers Branch."

City of Farmers Brancy Tourism Relations Manager Anne Stokes was directly responsible for coordinating the recognition for the Bears.

"I work with Brookhaven because sometimes we use their field," Stokes said. "Jimmy helps me with access to the fields, and I support the team. I know how hard they work. It's a great team."

Brookhaven has won four national championships in women's soccer. Last year's title was the Bears' first repeat championship.
