Newbill, Murillo, Elder Claim DAC Awards, Bears Earn 8 Honors

DALLAS – Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer player Whitni Newbill was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, while teammate Gracie Murillo was awarded the league's Newcomer of the Year. Jimmy Elder was given the DAC Coach of the Year.

Kaley Robison, Meah Perez, Bailey Clark and Kenya Reynolds earned First Team All-DAC honors, and Stephanie Farias was a second team pick.

Newbill, a sophomore forward from Fort Worth, Texas, finished the regular season with 10 goals, seven assists and 27 points. She had three gamewinning goals in the regular season, and added another in a 1-0 victory over Dallas College Eastfield in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District semifinals.

Murillo, a freshman forward from Carrollton, Texas, had five goals and five assists for 15 points prior to the postseason. She assisted on the lone goal in the DAC semifinal win over Eastfield. Murillo has one gamewinning goal.

Robison, a sophomore midfielder from Argyle, Texas, had six goals and an assist for 13 points before the district tournament. She scored two gamewinning goals, including the only strike in a 1-0 victory over Dallas College Richland to capture the league title.

Perez, a sophomore defender from Grand Prairie, Texas, had two goals and seven assists in the regular season. She opened the national tournament this week with two goals and an assist, making it four straight NJCAA Division III Tournament games, dating back to last year in which she's scored.

A sophomore defender from Corinth, Texas, Clark accounted for two goals and two assists prior to scoring in the national quarterfinals. She had one gamewinning goal.

Reynolds, a sophomore forward from The Colony, Texas, scored one goal this season.

Farias, a sophomore midfielder from McKinney, Texas, had a goal and 10 assists prior to scoring in the Bears' national quarterfinal win.

Elder's team has orchestrated 10 shutouts, including five in a row. The Bears allowed only one goal during the 10 DAC regular season games.

Brookhaven (13-2-1, 9-0-1 DAC) won its seventh straight conference championship, and returned to the national tournament to defend its past two straight national championships.
