Bears Bolstered by Returners in Season-Opening Win

DALLAS – Dallas College Brookhaven's men's basketball team opened the season with a 90-75 win at Dallas Christian College's Prospect team Wednesday night.

The Bears shot 51.6 percent from the floor, going 33 of 64, in a game they controlled the entire way. Brookhaven, whose opener was put off until Nov. 11 against Tribulation Prep, shot 23 of 29 from the free throw line.

Curtis Trey Moffett hit 9 of 12 field goals, had four of his team's 11 assists, and finished with 21 points and three steals to pace the Bears. Dirk Falkenhagen scored 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting, and grabbed five of his team's 43 rebounds. Jackson Lino had 12 points and five boards, and Jesse Klein finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Javier Espino had 14 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, and scored nine points. He was 7 of 10 from the free throw stripe.

The Bears, which will take its season-opening win on the road again Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Jacksonville College, struggled from beyond the three-point line, going 1-for-8, and committed 21 turnovers.

Brookhaven, bolstered by the return of four key contributors from a team that ran off five wins in a six-game stretch last year, have one of the more returning experienced rosters in the Dallas Athletic Conference this season. All four returners scored in double figures in Wednesday's victory.

The Bears will play their next three games on the road before hosting Tribulation Prep.
