CARROLLTON, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team survived a 1-0 test from Dallas College Eastfield in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District semifinals Thursday at Veterans Soccer Park.
The No. 2-ranked Bears (11-2-1) will meet No. 3 Dallas College Richland (9-1-3) for the district championship 12 p.m. Saturday at Brookhaven. The game will be broadcast on TSBN.
Whitni Newbill scored on an assist from Gracie Murillo in the 63 minute. Newbill raced up the field, and tapped home a ball Murillo threaded into the box.
Brookhaven attempted 25 shots, including 15 on frame. Eastfield goalkeeper Breanna Loftin stopped 14 shots. Bears keeper Emma Garces (8-0-1) was credited with two saves.
It was Brookhaven's fifth consecutive shutout and the 10th overall this season. Garces has four solo shutouts and 10 saves this year, and combined with Stephanie Bello on another clean sheet.
The Bears beat Richland, 1-0, in last year's district title match. Brookhaven picked up a 1-0 win over the Thunderducks Oct. 13 after settling for a scoreless draw the first time the two clubs met this season.
Brookhaven will be seeking its fifth straight district title. The last time the Bears missed out on a district championship was 2018 when they fell 2-1 in overtime to Richland.
